Boyfriend Charged With Murder in Death of 2-Year-Old Key’Monnie Bean in South Philadelphia

A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 5 for the 21-year-old accused.

  • Police say officers found Key’Monnie Bean unresponsive on a basement floor on the 2100 block of South Beechwood Street on Dec. 8, performed CPR, and she was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia that night.
  • Sean Hernandez, also known as Raafi Gorham, 21, was arrested Dec. 17 and is charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possessing an instrument of crime, and related offenses.
  • Prosecutors allege Hernandez fatally beat the child, noting she had extensive bruising, and say the case has been ruled a homicide as officials await the medical examiner’s final report.
  • Two others were charged in the investigation: Anthony Lowrie, 21, with obstruction, false reports, and providing false identification, and Alycia McNeil/McNeill, 20, with obstruction and false reporting.
  • District Attorney Larry Krasner called the child’s death a tremendous loss and urged public outrage, while police have not disclosed a motive and the child’s mother, who was present, has not been charged.
