Boy Hurt in K’gari Dingo Attack Airlifted to Brisbane Hospital

Officials opened an investigation, issuing fresh safety advice for visitors.

Overview

  • The primary-school-aged child was bitten near Coolooloi Creek around 3pm Saturday while on the beach with his grandfather.
  • Paramedics treated head bites and cuts at Rainbow Beach before a rescue helicopter flew him to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
  • A spokesperson said the dingo approached the pair on the shore, according to the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
  • Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is investigating and urges people to walk in groups, carry a stick, keep children within arm’s reach, avoid running and never feed dingoes.
  • The incident follows a May attack at Yidney Rocks in which a nine-year-old was helped by passers-by and the dingo was later euthanised.
