Overview

  • The bite was reported around 3:24 p.m. Monday near Horseshoe Reef several miles off Key Largo, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
  • The child was snorkeling and spearfishing with his father and a sibling when he was bitten above the knee.

  • Emergency dispatch audio described significant blood loss and a pale patient, and authorities said the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife were notified.
