Overview
- Boxer announced Monday that long-serving CEO Marek Masojada will retire at the end of February 2027 and that Justin Galloway will formally become CEO on 1 March 2027, with Masojada staying on to support the new leadership through November 2027.
- Galloway is a chartered accountant who joined Boxer in 2012, has served on the group executive since 2020, and led finance, store operations and the supply chain build that enabled the retailer’s rapid expansion.
- The board followed a succession plan created after Boxer’s November 2024 JSE listing and said it evaluated both internal and external candidates before selecting Galloway.
- Boxer reported resilient first-half results for the 26 weeks to 30 August 2026, with turnover up about 6.3% to R24.1 billion, trading profit up about 8.1% to R1.01 billion, a stronger net-cash position, and the opening of its 600th store.
- Management says the phased handover should protect momentum, but it warned that consumer pressure, selling-price deflation and higher fuel costs could limit near-term visibility and make store rollout and margin gains the key measures to watch.
