Overview
- Jose Salazar, 35, was booked into the Larimer County Jail on five felony counts, including vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, child abuse and tampering with physical evidence, and is held on $250,000 bond.
- The Dec. 16 collision occurred around 12:27 p.m. on northbound I-25 at Crossroads Boulevard and involved a box truck, a 2018 Lexus GX, a 2022 Kia Telluride and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with a trailer.
- Family identified the child who died as 17-month-old Elijah Manley via a GoFundMe, while two adults and another child from the Lexus were hospitalized and occupants of the Kia and pickup reported no injuries.
- A preliminary reconstruction alleges the box truck moved from the center lane into the right lane, struck the Lexus and pushed it into the Kia and the Chevrolet.
- The CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit continues to investigate, the Larimer County Coroner will formally release the child's identity, northbound I-25 was closed for an extended period, and a court appearance is set for Dec. 29.
