Overview

  • Investigators discovered on August 4 that attackers accessed personal data from 6.4 million accounts before the intrusion was blocked and network monitoring intensified.
  • Compromised information includes customer contact details, contractual and civil status records, and IBANs while payment card numbers and passwords remained secure.
  • Bouygues Telecom filed a formal complaint and promptly notified France’s data protection authority in line with regulatory obligations.
  • The operator has sent SMS and email alerts to all affected subscribers and urged them to watch for phishing and other fraudulent outreach.
  • The breach follows a similar attack at Orange and underscores ANSSI’s warnings about heightened cyber threats to France’s telecom infrastructure.
