Bournemouth Opens Hate-Crime Probe After Jewish Teen Shot and Swastikas Found

National Jewish security groups are assisting locally following a sustained rise in reported incidents.

  • Dorset Police report a teenage boy was shot in the forehead with an air weapon from a passing car on Manor Road in East Cliff at about 2:50pm on Saturday, 23 August.
  • The boy sustained a minor head injury after offensive remarks were shouted, and detectives are seeking the vehicle’s occupants.
  • At least four swastika graffiti reports were logged overnight Friday, including on Rabbi Bentzion Alperowitz’s home, and community members helped remove the paint.
  • Police are treating the shooting and vandalism as hate crimes, have increased patrols, and are examining potential links between the incidents, with no arrests announced.
  • The Community Security Trust condemned the attacks, is working with Dorset Police, and cites 1,521 antisemitic incidents across the UK in the first half of 2025.
