Boulder Teen Found Safe After Amber Alert, Police Detain 19-Year-Old Suspect

CBI confirmed her recovery after investigators identified a suspect and issued a statewide alert.

  • Boulder police reported that 19-year-old Juan Bretado was taken into custody after she was found, with charges not yet disclosed.
  • Authorities had said Zapata was seen being forced into a two-door grey or cream 2007 Chevy Silverado with Colorado plate AXW-L52 and a lime green 'Timpano' sticker on the rear windshield.
  • Police reported she was last seen at her Boulder residence around 8:30 p.m. Monday, and the suspect vehicle was last spotted near Thornton Parkway and Gale Boulevard at 8:57 p.m.
  • Officials earlier urged the public not to approach the truck if seen and to call 911 or the Boulder Police Department with information.
