Overview

  • A federal grand jury unsealed the 12-count hate crime indictment on June 25, alleging Mohamed Sabry Soliman hurled improvised firebombs at the “Run for Their Lives” demonstration at the Boulder County Courthouse.
  • Soliman also faces 118 criminal charges in state court, including 28 counts of attempted first-degree murder and multiple assault counts.
  • Prosecutors say the 45-year-old Egyptian national plotted the attack for more than a year, switched to Molotov cocktails after a failed gun purchase and shouted “Free Palestine” while attacking demonstrators.
  • Investigators recovered a handwritten note in his vehicle denouncing Zionism as a “cancer entity” and branding any supporters of Israel as enemies.
  • His defense contends the assault targeted political views rather than national origin and he is scheduled to appear in federal court on June 27.
