Both Sides Issue New Loss Claims as Fighting Intensifies in Eastern Ukraine

Pokrovsk saw the heaviest activity on Dec. 29, with both militaries posting new enemy-loss counts.

  • Ukraine’s General Staff reports total Russian personnel losses at approximately 1,206,910 since Feb. 24, 2022, including 1,220 in the past day, along with updated cumulative equipment tallies.
  • The General Staff notes 136 frontline clashes on Dec. 29 and identifies the Pokrovsk direction as the hottest sector with about 40 attack attempts.
  • Russia’s Defense Ministry, cited by Andrey Marochko via TASS, claims about 4,380 Ukrainian troops and mercenaries were killed or wounded over the past week near the LPR, up roughly 130 from the prior week.
  • The same Russian report puts December Ukrainian losses near the LPR at about 16,600 killed and wounded, about 1,100 higher than the previous period, with heavy pressure reported in Kupyansk, Borovaya, Boguslav and Krasny Liman.
  • Russian updates list destroyed Ukrainian materiel as six tanks, 30 artillery pieces, nine EW and counter-battery stations, 80 depots and 340-plus vehicles for the week, and nine tanks, one Grad MLRS, 119 artillery systems, 107 EW and counter-battery stations and 305 depots for December, with all figures presented as official claims subject to verification.
