Detectives in Boston have been investigating the murder of Carol Stuart and have identified a suspect, Willie Bennett, who has a long criminal record and was identified by the victim's husband in a police lineup.
Two teenagers, Erick Whitney and Dereck Jackson, initially told police that they heard Bennett confess to the crime during a gathering, but later recanted their statements, claiming they were scared and said what they thought the police wanted to hear.
The police conducted a raid on Bennett's home, finding a .38 caliber bullet lodged in a wall, the same type of bullet that killed Carol Stuart.
Despite the recantation of the teenagers' statements, the police continued to build their case against Bennett, who was kept in jail on unrelated charges.
