Overview
- Boston Dynamics unveiled a production-ready Atlas at CES 2026 and said units are now being built, with initial deployments to Hyundai and Google DeepMind.
- Hyundai plans trials on factory floors in the coming months at its Georgia Metaplant, moving to parts sequencing by 2028 and expanding to component assembly and heavier repetitive tasks around 2030.
- Google DeepMind will integrate Gemini Robotics models to give Atlas advanced perception, reasoning and task learning, with pilots intended to assess navigation, manipulation and workflow performance.
- Hyundai Mobis will supply Atlas actuators and is setting up a prototype line in Uiwang this year to support a scale-up toward mass production as Hyundai targets capacity of up to 30,000 robots annually by 2028.
- Atlas is specified to lift about 110 pounds, reach roughly 7.5 feet, operate across wide temperatures and swap batteries autonomously, and it was named Best Robot of CES 2026 by CNET as Boston Dynamics targets rapid task training and high reliability.
