Boston Doctor Indicted on Rape Charges After Over 200 Patients Allege Sexual Abuse

Dr. Derrick Todd, a former rheumatologist, faces criminal charges and lawsuits over accusations of performing unnecessary and invasive medical procedures for over a decade.

Dr. Derrick Todd, formerly of Brigham and Women's Hospital, has been indicted on two counts of rape involving alleged assaults on patients during medical exams in December 2022 and June 2023.
Over 200 former patients, including women and men aged from teens to their 60s, accuse Todd of conducting unnecessary and invasive procedures for his own sexual gratification since at least 2010.
Todd pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, where the judge set bail at $10,000 and ordered him to surrender his medical licenses and passport while barring contact with alleged victims.
The allegations surfaced in 2023 after anonymous complaints prompted an internal investigation, leading to Todd's resignation and a class-action lawsuit against him and the hospital for failing to act on the reported abuse.
Attorneys representing the accusers have stated that the criminal case is expected to expand as investigations continue, with the indictment serving as validation for the victims' civil claims.
