Overview

  • In March a warrant was issued after Dodik ignored a summons from the Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office; authorities accused him of unilaterally severing central judicial authority in Republika Srpska.
  • Dodik appeared at the General Prosecutor’s Office under guarantees against arrest with his lawyer accompanying him to the State Court.
  • His February conviction for contempt of the High Representative Christian Schmidt carries a one-year sentence that is currently subject to appeal.
  • The decision represents a tenuous detente in Dodik’s secessionist challenge to Bosnia’s central institutions under the Dayton framework.
  • International actors such as EUFOR and NATO have monitored the crisis closely out of concern that Dodik’s Russian ties could destabilize regional security.
