Bose Opens SoundTouch API, Delays Cloud Cutoff to May 6, 2026

The company shifts to a community model to keep speakers usable after cloud services end.

Overview

  • Bose released and began mailing SoundTouch API documentation so independent developers can build compatible tools.
  • The app’s shutdown is pushed to May 6, 2026, when it will auto-update to a local-only version that retains remote control, speaker grouping, setup, and configuration.
  • AirPlay and Spotify Connect will continue to work, and AirPlay 2–capable units can play the same audio simultaneously.
  • Cloud integrations and official security and software updates will cease after the new cutoff, placing long-term support on third parties.
  • The revisions follow backlash to an earlier February 18 plan that would have stripped cloud features and left the premium speakers as basic inputs.
