Bosch, Works Council Cut Planned German Layoffs in Vehicle-Software Unit to About 1,500

The deal follows talks with employee representatives after automakers scaled back orders for driver-assistance as well as automated-driving software.

Overview

  • An agreement reduces the Cross-Domain Computing Solutions cuts in Germany from 1,850 to roughly 1,500 positions by the end of 2027, according to the reports.
  • The reduction will be carried out through socially compatible measures such as early retirement, severance payments and transfers within Bosch.
  • Reports differ on dismissal protections, with Stern citing an exclusion of company-ordered layoffs through 2029, while SWR and Merkur report protections through 2027.
  • The affected German sites include Leonberg, Abstatt, Renningen, Schwieberdingen in Baden-Württemberg and Hildesheim in Lower Saxony.
  • The adjustment comes within a wider cost program, following roughly 13,000 additional cuts announced in September and about 29,000 reductions flagged since late 2023.
