Overview
- Bosch confirmed Thursday that it will eliminate 750 positions at its Abstatt site near Heilbronn, with the reductions to be completed by the end of 2029.
- The cuts target the Vehicle Motion unit, which develops brake systems, vehicle-movement software and sensors, while Cross-Domain Computing Solutions and Bosch Engineering are not affected.
- The Abstatt campus employs about 5,300 people, so the announced losses represent a significant site-level reduction within a longer program that has seen roughly 23,650 mobility jobs cut in Germany since 2024.
- Bosch links the decision to stagnant global vehicle production, growing price and speed competition from Asian suppliers and to some brake-by-wire and other systems being developed first with Chinese customers at local Bosch sites.
- The move follows wider corporate restructuring and profit pressure at Bosch and mirrors sector trends such as Schaeffler’s recent cuts and a Roland Berger warning of deep auto-supply job losses in Germany through 2030.
