Bosch Reaches Hildesheim Deal as BSH to Close Two German Plants, Cut 1,400 Jobs

The decisions seek to restore competitiveness under shrinking demand.

Overview

  • Bosch, IG Metall, and the Hildesheim works council agreed to keep the electric‑motor components plant open with about 550 jobs cut by end‑2027 and roughly 680 by 2032.
  • The pact bars operational dismissals at Hildesheim through 2027 and sets a minimum staffing line that targets about 420 jobs secured until 2032.
  • Bosch says Hildesheim remains a competence center for e‑motor components, with potential new projects tied to proven improvements in competitiveness.
  • Separately, Bosch’s BSH unit will shut production in Nauen by mid‑2027 and in Bretten by March 2028, eliminating around 440 and 980 jobs respectively for a total of about 1,400.
  • BSH attributes the closures to weak demand and rising low‑cost competition, plans talks on social solutions, does not rule out layoffs for operational reasons, and says the move is independent of Bosch Mobility’s 13,000 planned job cuts.
