Bosch Introduces App-Enabled Anti-Theft Lock for E-Bike Batteries

The new Battery Lock feature will digitally secure e-bike batteries but requires a paid subscription after the first year.

Bosch announced the Battery Lock feature at CES 2025, designed to deter e-bike battery theft by digitally locking batteries through the Flow+ app.
Once activated, stolen batteries become unusable on other Bosch e-bikes, disabling motor support and reducing resale value.
The feature will be available via an over-the-air update this summer for Bosch smart system e-bikes and supports multiple digital keys for shared use.
Battery Lock is part of the Flow+ subscription service, which costs $35/£35/€40 annually after a free first year for new e-bike owners.
Critics argue that requiring a subscription undermines the feature's potential to prevent widespread theft, as unlocked batteries may still appeal to thieves.
