Overview

  • The FDA issued the recall on June 10 after Bornstein’s routine testing detected Listeria monocytogenes in its Cooked & Peeled Ready-To-Eat Coldwater Shrimp Meat.
  • Affected items include 1-pound and 5-pound plastic bags sold in California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, with possible further distribution nationwide.
  • Bornstein Seafoods has stopped all shipments and launched a root-cause probe to determine how the contamination occurred.
  • No illnesses have been reported so far, although Listeria can cause serious infections in pregnant women, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
  • Consumers should check lot codes on their shrimp packages and return any recalled products to retailers for a full refund.
