Overview
- Bord Gáis will lift electricity unit rates by 13.5% and standing charges by 12% from 12 October, adding about €18.16 a month to a typical bill while leaving prices for 270,000 gas customers unchanged.
- Pinergy will raise typical household electricity costs by 9.83% from 13 October, or about €199 a year, with no change to its standing charge.
- Both suppliers attribute the increases to higher network charges, wholesale market pricing pressures and rising operating costs.
- Energia plans electricity increases of up to 12.1% from 9 October, Electric Ireland will cut gas prices by 4% for 140,000 customers from November and will hold electricity rates, and Flogas raised prices by about 7% last month.
- Bord Gáis says this is its first increase in three years after absorbing 2024 network charge rises, while Pinergy’s CEO referenced CRU-approved grid costs and urged exchequer support to stabilise prices.
