• The six finalists are: Flashlight (Susan Choi), The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny (Kiran Desai), Audition (Katie Kitamura), The Rest of Our Lives (Ben Markovits), The Land in Winter (Andrew Miller) and Flesh (David Szalay).
• Kiran Desai, the 2006 winner, returns with her first novel since that prize—a nearly 700-page work widely reported as a favorite to win again.
• Three American authors—Choi, Kitamura and Markovits—feature on a shortlist with no debut novels, alongside previous shortlistees Andrew Miller and David Szalay.
• The five-member panel of Roddy Doyle, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, Chris Power, Kiley Reid and Sarah Jessica Parker narrowed the field after a roughly four-hour meeting.
• Each shortlisted author receives £2,500, and the winner will get £50,000 at a London ceremony in November.
