Book banning in U.S. schools reached record highs in 2022

There was a 33% increase in book ban attempts in the 2022-2023 school year.
Florida had the most book bans, followed by Texas.
There were 3,362 total book ban attempts, resulting in 1,557 titles being removed.
Most banned books featured diverse characters or addressed racism.
There has been a multi-year trend of increasing book bans since 2020.
