Overview
- Bonhams announced Tuesday that it will sell items from Stanley Kubrick’s personal archive with a live auction on February 3, 2027, and an online lot closing on February 4, 2027.
- Headline lots include the original Star Child prop from 2001: A Space Odyssey, estimated at £600,000–£800,000, and the special‑effects axe used in The Shining, estimated at £30,000–£50,000.
- Select items will be publicly displayed ahead of the London exhibition with stops at Bonhams New York (Oct. 16–23), Bonhams Los Angeles (Nov. 2–6) and Bonhams Paris (select days Nov. 16–24), and the full collection will be shown at Bonhams New Bond Street from Jan. 18–Feb. 3, 2027.
- Kubrick’s stepdaughter Katherina Kubrick said the family hopes the pieces will be ‘cherished’ by new owners, and Bonhams presents the sale as both a commercial offering and an opportunity to study the director’s working materials.
- Beyond high prices for marquee props, the sale will put annotated scripts, production equipment and costumes into private hands while creating new access for collectors and researchers and likely setting market benchmarks for film memorabilia.
