Bonhams to Auction 30 Bob Ross Paintings for Public TV, Starting Nov. 11

Net proceeds will support American Public Television programming fees at PBS stations following this year’s federal cuts.

Overview

  • The first sale is Nov. 11 in Los Angeles, featuring Cliffside (1990), Winter’s Peace (1993) and Home in the Valley (1993).
  • Subsequent auctions will be held in New York, London and Boston, with additional lots offered online.
  • Bonhams values the group at $850,000 to $1.4 million, after setting recent Ross auction highs in August.
  • Most of the 30 works were painted live on The Joy of Painting in under 30 minutes, boosting their appeal to collectors.
  • Congress eliminated about $1.1 billion in public-broadcasting support at President Donald Trump’s request, prompting emergency drives, budget cuts and layoffs at local stations.
