Wright pleaded not guilty at an arraignment that brought the first public description of the baby’s injuries.

Overview

  • Cincinnati police say they responded to the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue on Oct. 18 for an unresponsive child who was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and died on Oct. 30.
  • The infant was identified as 7-month-old Leylani Wright, and police arrested her mother, 20-year-old Breanna Wright, on Nov. 4.
  • Wright is charged with murder, felonious assault, and child endangerment, and a judge set her bond at $1.55 million.
  • At the arraignment, prosecutors said the coroner is investigating the death as a homicide and described injuries including broken ribs, a broken femur, and a lacerated bowel.
  • Prosecutors told the court Wright reported stepping out for a smoke before finding the baby unresponsive and said investigators later struggled to locate her as she provided different addresses.
