Bombay High Court's Kolhapur Bench Grants Bail to Three Prime Accused in Govind Pansare Murder

Sharad Kalaskar remains in custody due to his Dabholkar murder conviction despite the bail order.

Overview

  • Justice Shivkumar Dige orally allowed the bail applications for Virendrasinh Tawade, Sharad Kalaskar and Amol Kale, with the detailed order awaited.
  • Tawade and Kale are expected to be released after complying with conditions, while Kalaskar stays jailed because he was convicted in the 2013 Dabholkar case and his appeal is pending.
  • The bench declined a request from the Pansare family's lawyer to stay the ruling, and said the accused must furnish fresh sureties and bonds.
  • Pansare and his wife were shot during a morning walk in Kolhapur on February 16, 2015; he died on February 20 and she survived.
  • The probe moved from local police to a CID SIT and then to the ATS in 2022, naming 12 accused with 10 arrests and two alleged absconders, Vinay Pawar and Sarang Akolkar.
