Overview
- Justice R N Laddha set aside a 2018 special court directive that had required handing confidential papers to Jabiruddin Ansari, also known as Abu Jundal.
- The ruling accepts petitions by the Delhi Police, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of External Affairs challenging the disclosure order.
- Proceedings can restart after being stalled since 2018 over the defence demand for items such as officers’ passports, a Dammam–Delhi Jet Airways passenger list, MEA emergency travel papers and immigration records.
- Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued the requested materials were unrelated to the charges and would derail the case, a position the court endorsed.
- The court said Jundal’s claims about being taken from Saudi Arabia in 2012 are unconnected to this trial and belong to a separate Delhi Police matter.
