Bombay High Court Lets Celebi Unit Withdraw Plea Over Security Clearance Revocation

Courts have recently backed the government's national-security case for the May revocation, constraining Celebi’s legal options.

Overview

  • A division bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh P Pooniwalla allowed Celebi Nas to withdraw its Bombay High Court petition and disposed of the case.
  • Celebi’s counsel Chetan Kapadia sought withdrawal "without prejudice to its rights and contention in law," which the court accepted.
  • The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security revoked Celebi’s security clearance on May 15 citing national security, and the Solicitor General later pointed to intelligence inputs supporting the move.
  • On July 7, the Delhi High Court dismissed a similar writ by another Celebi subsidiary challenging the cancellation of the security clearance.
  • In July, the Bombay High Court vacated interim protection and allowed Mumbai International Airport Limited to finalise new tenders after terminating Celebi’s contract, which followed broader contract terminations at multiple airports.
