Bombay High Court Judges Recuse from HDFC Bank CEO’s Plea to Quash FIR

  • Sashidhar Jagdishan has moved to quash an FIR registered on June 8 at Bandra police station under sections 406, 409 and 420 of the IPC.
  • The FIR arises from allegations that he accepted a ₹2.05 crore bribe to advise the Chetan Mehta Group on retaining control of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust.
  • Three benches of the Bombay High Court have stepped aside in recent days after judges cited shareholdings in HDFC Bank or prior associations with the Trust.
  • The Lilavati Trust has also petitioned the court for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the purported conspiracy.
  • HDFC Bank is separately pursuing recovery proceedings against Splendour Gems Ltd for a ₹65.22 crore loan default linked to the Mehta family.
