Bombay High Court Grants Bail to Three Prime Accused in 2015 Govind Pansare Killing

The Kolhapur bench declined a stay requested by Pansare’s family.

Overview

  • Justice Shivkumar Dige orally allowed bail for Virendrasinh Tawade, Sharad Kalaskar and Amol Kale, with a detailed order to be issued later.
  • Kalaskar will remain in custody because he was earlier convicted in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case, and his appeal is pending before the High Court.
  • In January, six other accused in the case were granted bail citing prolonged incarceration and the slow pace of the trial.
  • The investigation, transferred to the Maharashtra ATS in 2022, has identified 12 accused, nine of whom have been arrested, with two alleged shooters still absconding.
  • Prosecutors have alleged links to Sanatan Sanstha and connections to other ideological killings, allegations that remain to be tested at trial.
