Bombay High Court Dismisses Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s ₹100-Crore Suit Against Brother, Ex-Wife for Non-Prosecution

The suit was dismissed for non-prosecution after no one appeared for the plaintiff, leaving the claims unresolved on merits.

Overview

  • Justice Jitendra Jain passed the order on Friday after the actor and his lawyer were absent, with the detailed judgment yet to be published.
  • Siddiqui’s plaint alleged that brother Shamasuddin diverted about ₹20–21 crore to acquire properties in Mumbai’s Versova area, Buldhana, Shahpur and Dubai, along with around 14 luxury vehicles.
  • The filing claimed private videos and voice notes were used with social-media posts to blackmail and defame him, triggering project delays and emotional distress.
  • According to the suit, Shamasuddin was appointed manager in 2008 with broad financial access, his services ended in 2020, and subsequent tax and GST notices to Siddiqui totaled roughly ₹37 crore.
  • The actor sought ₹100 crore in damages, takedown of alleged defamatory content, a public apology, disclosures, and curbs on asset transfers, while defence counsel termed the case baseless.
