Bombardier’s Global 8000 Wins FAA Certification, Clearing U.S. Deliveries

The approval opens the U.S. market, with European certification still pending.

Overview

  • Bombardier said the FAA certified the Global 8000 on December 19, enabling deliveries to U.S. customers in the world’s largest business aviation market.
  • The jet entered service earlier in December after Transport Canada type certification on November 5, with the first aircraft delivered on December 8 to Canadian entrepreneur Patrick Dovigi.
  • EASA approval has yet to be granted, though GE’s modified Passport engine for the Global 8000 recently received European approval that supports the remaining process.
  • The aircraft is billed with a top speed of Mach 0.95, an 8,000‑nautical‑mile range, and a cabin altitude of 2,691 feet at 41,000 feet for reduced passenger fatigue.
  • An advanced wing with leading‑edge slats is designed to improve takeoff and landing performance, with Bombardier saying it can serve up to 30% more airports than its closest rival.
