Overview

  • On June 25, bomb threat emails prompted evacuations at Mother Mary and Rahul International schools in Nalasopara as well as Calcutta International and Calcutta Boys schools in Kolkata.
  • Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs and police conducted thorough searches at each site and found no explosives or suspicious materials.
  • Investigators have tied multiple emails to pseudonyms such as Umar Farooq and Rene Joshilda, the latter held by Ahmedabad’s cybercrime unit.
  • Police and cybercrime divisions are examining VPN logs and email IP data to locate the individuals responsible for the hoax alerts.
  • The series of false threats has repeatedly disrupted classes and court activities in Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal in recent weeks.
