Bomb Threat Emails Prompt Diversion and Checks for Two Hyderabad-Bound IndiGo Flights

Security agencies are investigating the origin of the threat emails following aircraft clearances.

Overview

  • IndiGo flight 6E58 from Madinah to Hyderabad diverted to Ahmedabad around 12:30 pm after a threat email, where passengers and crew were deboarded and the aircraft was searched.
  • Authorities said initial searches by CISF, NDRF and bomb squad teams found no suspicious items on the diverted aircraft, and airport operations continued.
  • Rajiv Gandhi International Airport sources said the 6E58 threat email reached the airport’s customer support at 10 am while the aircraft was en route.
  • A second email targeted flight 6E1422 from Sharjah; PTI cited airport sources saying it landed in Hyderabad at 3:15 pm and underwent standard security protocols, though some outlets reported a diversion to Mumbai.
  • Police and security agencies have opened probes to trace the sender of the emails, as the incidents unfolded on a day of large-scale IndiGo disruptions with more than 300 cancellations reported due to crew shortages.
