Bolsonaro Transferred to Brasília Hospital for Court-Approved Hernia Surgery on Dec. 25

The STF set strict Federal Police custody rules for an elective procedure deemed necessary by official medical exams.

Overview

  • The former president left the Federal Police superintendence on Dec. 24 and was admitted to Hospital DF Star for preoperative exams, with surgery scheduled for Dec. 25.
  • Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized discreet PF transport and ordered 24-hour surveillance, including at least two agents posted at the hospital room door.
  • Computers, cellphones and other electronic devices are barred from the room, and Michelle Bolsonaro is the only companion allowed without separate judicial approval.
  • A PF forensic report recommended bilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy as soon as possible on an elective basis and noted persistent hiccups linked to a nerve issue, with a targeted phrenic nerve block under consideration.
  • Doctors expect the operation to last three to four hours and anticipate a five-to-seven-day hospitalization, after which Bolsonaro must return to PF custody to continue serving his sentence.
