Boise State has fired head football coach Andy Avalos after three seasons, with the team currently at a 5-5 record for the season.
Avalos, a former Boise State player and assistant coach, had a 22-14 overall record, including a 10-4 season that led to him being named 2022 Mountain West Coach of the Year.
Defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson will serve as interim head coach for the remaining two games of the season.
The school has announced a national search for Avalos' replacement, with potential candidates including former Boise State and Auburn coach Bryan Harsin and Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Avalos' dismissal comes as the team is in danger of its first losing season since 1997, a significant downturn for a program that has been a consistent contender in the Mountain West Conference.
