Boil-Water Advisory Issued for Maricopa After Preliminary E. coli Tests

ADEQ rules require repeat sampling with confirmatory results expected about 24 hours after retesting.

Overview

  • Global Water Resources issued a precautionary boil-water advisory for customers served by Santa Cruz Water Company after two preliminary tests indicated possible E. coli contamination.
  • The company said the advisory followed tests reported on Oct. 7 that produced two preliminary positive results and stressed the presence of E. coli is not yet confirmed.
  • Residents are instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute or use bottled water before drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality rules require the utility to collect repeat samples at and near the original positive locations and testing results are expected about 24 hours after those samples are taken.
  • Boiling kills bacteria and viruses that can cause gastrointestinal illness, home filters may not remove all contaminants, and Global Water Resources says it will post updates on its website for customers.
