Overview

  • The break west of M-5 left thousands without water service and closed parts of 14 Mile as water continued bubbling from the site hours after the rupture.
  • Great Lakes Water Authority crews have isolated most valves and plan to work into the night to fully shut down the damaged transmission main before repairs.
  • Novi and Walled Lake instructed residents to boil tap water, while Commerce Township and Wixom lifted prior advisories but cautioned about ongoing low pressure.
  • Officials warned that reduced water pressure could last for days given the size of the transmission main and the dewatering effort underway.
  • Novi provided non-drinkable water fill stations and distributed drinking water at ITC Community Sports Park until 9 p.m. Thursday.
