Boeing Unveils CxR Tiltrotor Drone Concept for Army Strike, Recon and Logistics

Boeing is seeking Army feedback on the concept with no timeline announced.

Overview

  • Boeing introduced the Collaborative Transformation Rotorcraft (CxR), a large uncrewed tiltrotor positioned as the Army’s biggest UAS concept since the MQ-1C Gray Eagle.
  • CxR is described at 5,000–7,000 pounds with a single gas-fueled turboshaft engine driving two tilting propellers and a target speed of 200–250 knots.
  • The platform is designed for 1,000–2,000 pound payloads, with modular bays for weapons, sensors or smaller drones to enable a networked “mothership” role.
  • Company officials say the conceptual design could operate as a wingman for crewed platforms like Apache or MV-75, with a potential logistics-oriented variant dubbed ClR.
  • Boeing cites lessons from tiltrotor programs such as the V-22 and frames CxR as supporting Future Vertical Lift objectives and the Army’s move toward networked uncrewed systems.
