Boeing to Shift Super Hornet Upgrade Work Out of St. Louis by 2027

The company cites a St. Louis site expansion as the driver for reallocating the Super Hornet upgrade work.

Overview

  • Relocation of F/A-18 Service Life Modification work will begin in 2026 with St. Louis activities scheduled to end in 2027.
  • Boeing is evaluating transfers to San Antonio and Jacksonville, building on existing SLM operations in San Antonio and a Navy partnership at FRC Southwest in San Diego.
  • Additional F/A-18 modification work already occurs in Jacksonville, providing established capacity for potential workload shifts.
  • Current St. Louis SLM team members will transition to other local programs that include F-15EX, T-7A, MQ-25, and JDAM production lines.
  • SLM upgrades Block II Super Hornets to Block III and adds about 4,000 flight hours, with the effort projected to continue into the mid-2030s.
