Boeing, RAAF Wrap MQ-28 Ghost Bat Demo Early, Move to Operational Phase

Validated capabilities now feed into Block 2 production ahead of planned live air-to-air weapons trials.

Overview

  • The Capability Demonstration 2025 campaign concluded in early June, four months ahead of the RAAF’s schedule.
  • Testing proved the first four steps of the air combat chain and validated five mission sets that included autonomous behaviors, multi-ship operations, deployment to RAAF Base Tindal, teaming with an E-7A Wedgetail, and data fusion with crewed platforms.
  • The program has logged about 150 hours of flight testing and more than 20,000 hours in virtual simulations.
  • Capabilities demonstrated this year are being incorporated into Block 2 aircraft already in production, forming the basis for an initial operational capability for the RAAF and potential partners.
  • The next phase focuses on operational engagement and assessment, with an air-to-air weapon shot planned for later 2025 or early 2026.
