Boeing Defense Machinists to Vote Friday on Union-Written Contract

Boeing dismisses the union-crafted vote as a publicity stunt.

Overview

  • Union members will vote Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. at St. Louis Music Park in Maryland Heights, with results tallied immediately after polls close.
  • The four-year proposal adds general wage increases of 8%, 4%, 4% and 4%, a 100% company match on the first 8% of 401(k) contributions, and a $10,000 ratification bonus.
  • Roughly 3,200 IAM District 837 workers remain on strike six to seven weeks into the work stoppage at Boeing defense sites in Missouri and Illinois that produce F-15s, F/A-18s, T-7A trainers and other systems.
  • Boeing says it will hire replacement workers, while union officials note many positions require weeks of training and security clearances that can take months.
  • If members ratify the union-drafted offer, it will be submitted to Boeing as a pre-ratified agreement, and the strike will continue unless the company accepts, following a 57% vote rejecting Boeing’s prior offer on Sept. 12.
