Overview

• On July 17 in Kimberworth Park, Rotherham, 46-year-old Glynn Leedell rushed at officers after reports he had threatened a woman.
• Body-worn video captures the assault and audio of officers shouting warnings before one officer was slashed in the back of the neck and taken to hospital.
• Responding officers disarmed and restrained Leedell at the scene, and a second officer suffered injuries to his hand during the struggle.
• Leedell admitted wounding with intent and was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on August 29 to four years and six months in prison after being charged also with harassment and assault of an emergency worker, with those counts left on file.
• Rotherham District Commander Chief Superintendent Andy Wright condemned the attack and praised the officers' bravery, calling it a reminder of the dangers they face.
