Overview

• Officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. to reports of a knife-wielding resident at a Grand Crossing assisted living facility and used a key to enter his locked apartment
• After being tased twice, 47-year-old Alfonzo Wright charged a Chicago police sergeant with a large butcher knife, prompting two backup officers to open fire
• No officers were injured during the confrontation, and Wright was pronounced dead at the scene
• Investigators discovered 58-year-old Keith Harding stabbed to death inside Wright’s unit and believe Wright committed the killing before police arrival
• The involved officers have been placed on administrative duty pending COPA’s ongoing investigation
