Body Recovered on Withernsea Beach Believed to Be Missing Teen Grace Keeling

Police say formal identification is still pending following a two-week multi-agency search.

Overview

  • Humberside Police recovered a body from rocks at Withernsea on Saturday morning with assistance from HM Coastguard and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.
  • The body was first located by police search advisors around 8:30am on Thursday, but recovery was delayed by tides, hazardous conditions and the position among rocks.
  • Detectives say they believe the person is 15-year-old Grace Keeling, who was swept into the sea at Withernsea on 2 January.
  • Specialist officers have informed the family and asked for privacy as formal identification and related inquiries continue.
  • Grace’s mother, Sarah Keeling, and passer-by Mark Ratcliffe died attempting to rescue her on 2 January, with inquests opened on 12 January recording drowning as the primary cause with contributory injuries.
