Body Recovered From Lake Michigan Identified as Missing CPS Teacher Linda Brown

An autopsy is pending to determine the cause and manner of death under an active Chicago police investigation.

Overview

  • Officials said the body was recovered just before noon Monday in the 3100 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the remains are Linda Brown, 53, who had been reported missing earlier this month.
  • Police have closed the missing-person case and are conducting a death investigation while the medical examiner schedules an autopsy.
  • Surveillance footage placed Brown on Jan. 3 walking east across a pedestrian bridge near the 3500 block of South Lake Park Avenue after her blue 2021 Honda Civic was found near 35th and Lake Park.
  • Family said Brown left for a routine acupuncture appointment with her phone, purse and credit cards and taught at Robert Healy Elementary, where district support teams have been engaged.
