Body of Record-Setting 80-Year-Old Climber Recovered on Mount Rainier

Rescue crews found a body matching the description of Dawes Eddy, an 80-year-old climber who held the record for oldest person to summit Mount Everest, on Mount Rainier.
Eddy had gone missing while climbing Mount Rainier alone for the 50th time to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Eddy was found 30 to 50 feet down a crevasse at 11,500 feet on the mountain.
Eddy had previously survived a fall while climbing Mount Rainier in March 1999.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death for Eddy and another climber who died on Mount Rainier last week.
