Overview

• Dr. Marites Buenafe, 62, was reported missing after missing the Norwegian Bliss’s 1:30 p.m. departure on July 1 following a solo hike in Juneau
• Search operations by Alaska State Troopers, Juneau Mountain Rescue, U.S. Coast Guard and volunteers used drones, K-9s, helicopters and ground teams over two days
• An Alaska National Guard helicopter crew located her body on July 3 about 1,700 feet below the Gold Ridge ridgeline
• Troopers and rescue personnel recovered her remains with support from Temsco Helicopters before notifying her next of kin
• Her body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy
