A man’s body has been found after hours of searching Lake Macquarie for a missing fisherman.

Overview

  • Officers were alerted around 4 pm when the man failed to return from a fishing trip at Summerland Point, about 130 km north of Sydney.
  • Search efforts intensified after his unattended boat was found drifting on Lake Macquarie, with Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW joining the operation.
  • Teams combed the water for nearly four hours before a Surf Life Saving NSW helicopter spotted the body at approximately 7.40 pm.
  • Investigators have begun drafting a report for the coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
